The Irlam & Cadishead area has a youth population of approximately 3745 young people aged between 10-24 years. Although there is a low level of reported crime in the area (compared to the rest of Salford), juvenile nuisance is a serious concern. There is a relatively large number of sports related activities but very little in terms of affordable music/arts work locally. Access to those activites in Salford and Manchester means long travelling times and costs attached.
To address these issues, a steering group of local young people, adult volunteers, the City Council, St John's Bridges Project and the Community Health Project was formed in February 2001.
Below are some of the current management group with two of the youngsters who enjoy the events YAM organise.
