We Made It!
|
In 2005 “Words in Edgeways” was a very small social creative writing group hoping to offer companionship and support for local people sharing a writing interest, regardless of ability, age, race or gender. We were fortunate, with helpful advice from the Communities team at Salford City Council, to receive start-up funding from Awards for All.
Despite advertising, our numbers still remained very low until July 2006 when we produced our first anthology, 'Layols fer Meddlers'. We organised a launch party, overcame our nerves and included readings, sold a surprising amount of copies and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. This was the turning point - we doubled our membership and our meeting room is filled to capacity most Monday evenings!
"Layols fer Meddlers" won a 1st prize in the 2007 David St John Thomas Writing Awards and we are delighted that our second anthology "Pot Hooks for Ladles" has also won a 1st prize in the 2008 Competition.
