Welcome to Walkden Local History Group

The informal and friendly meetings are held from September to May in the Guild Hall, Guild Avenue, Walkden at 2pm in the afternoon of the second Wednesday of the month. All are welcome.
Meeting usually take the form of a guest speaker (see the Programme for details) although occasionally walks and visits to places of interest are arranged.
There is no annual subscription and no need to book, just turn up and pay the £1.50 sub on the door. Tea and biscuits are served after the meeting.
Maps, photographs, census material and old newspapers relating to Walkden are no longer available in the new Walkden Library, they have been transferred to the Local History Library in Salford Museum and Art Gallery at Peel Park, Salford. (open Tues, Thurs, Fri 10 – 5 and Wed 10-8; closed weekends and all day Monday. Tel 0161 778 0814) So, to try and make Walkden History a little more accessible we have provided some pages with a outline history of the town and related topics. Hopefully we will be adding more in future.
