The Group has now ceased to meet but the website will remain as a source of information about Walkden' fascinating history.
Other local providers of local history and heritage information and talk are listed on our PROGRAMME page.
Maps, photographs, census material and old newspapers relating to Walkden are no longer available in the new Walkden Library, they have been transferred to the Local History Library in Salford Museum and Art Gallery at Peel Park, Salford. (open Tues, Thurs, Fri 10 – 5 and Wed 10-8; closed weekends and all day Monday. Tel 0161 778 0814) So, to try and make Walkden History a little more accessible we have provided some pages with a outline history of the town and related topics. Hopefully we will be adding more in future.
