WALKDEN MONUMENT c 1955
Walkden Monument was erected in 1868 in memory of the Countess of Ellesmere, It stood in the middle of the main crossroads in the centre of Walkden until 1968, when increasing traffic congestion meant it was moved to its present location at the side of Manchester Road, next to St Pauls Church.

WALKDEN LOW LEVEL STATION
Opened in 1875 by the London and North Western Railways (LNWR) on their Manchester to Bolton Line. It was situated off Walkden Road, adjacent to brindley Street and was known locally as the "Low Level" because access was down ramps from pavement level as oposed to Walkden's other station whidch was known as the "High Level" because access to the platform via steps up from the road.
