A generous gift to the people of Salford
1845 - Sir Benjamin Heywood purchases 180 acres, 2 poles and 23 perches of land known as the Claremont Estate
1902 - 7.5 acres part of the land known as Claremont Farm acquired for £6267 from the Claremont Estate by Salford Corporation with covenant attached
1906 - The 7.5 acres purchased in 1902 designated a public park in line with covenant and opened as Claremont Park.
1914 - Light Oaks (11.5 acres) offered as a gift to Salford Corporation on Edward Stanley Heywood’s death.
1925 - Official opening of Light Oaks Park by Lieutenant Colonel Sir Graham Percival Heywood. Light Oaks and Claremont Park are merged into one park and named Light Oaks Park, 19 acres in total.
1937 - 9.5 acres of land at Claremont House (Eccles Old Road) and a further 2.5 acres of land at Claremont Farm conveyed with covenant attached.
1946 - An acre of land taken from the 1902 Covenated land and swapped for one acre from the 1937 covenanted Claremont Farm land.
1951 - Claremont Open Air School opened on site of Claremont Farm and Light Oaks Park (Claremont Park)
2006 - Oakwood School (originally Claremont Open Air School) demolished and the land earmarked for residential development.
2007 - Residents discover that covenants exist and set about tracing Sir Peter Heywood, 6th Baronet of Claremont in their bid to have covenants upheld. Sir Peter attends public meeting on 11 April 2007, confirming that the Heywood family's wishes should be honoured.
