The Research Equipment Fund was set up in 1983 by Kath Smith B.E.M.
The Charity raises Money to purchase Specialist Surgical Equipment for the Path lab, for research into cancer,leukaemia and kidney diseases, also to supply the Operating Theatre with the finest possible equipment for the correction of most of these and other diseases in children.

After Years of hard work,the £1 Million was reached in 2001.
The aprox' money raised to date is around £2million
The needs are endless as modern science enters the walls of the Hospital, but we intend to meet these if at all possible.

The Money is raised in All sorts of ways, Car Boot Sales - Family Fun days,Raffles and Donations throughout the year.

Equipment bought,and handed over at our Special Presentation Evenings the Charity holds from time to time, included, an electro hydraulic lithotripotor,which removes kidney stones without open surgery.

The Hospital was also presented with endoscopic surgical equipment which also films operations.
This footage can be used to help Doctors World wide.
The equipment films the operation and then used after to teach Doctors all over the World.
The Charity wants to make the Hospital the finest for keyhole surgery in the country.

In May 2002,we handed over new Pain Relief Pumps to the Head of the Pain Team at the Hospital, Dr Robert Walker and his staff, Ann Day and Denise Jonas who are both (pain nurse) specialists.

We have to date, provided the Hospital with some of the most up to date equipment available such as ;

UNIT for TITANIUM IMPLANTS
This is for children born without ears.Implants of Titanium are grafted into the skull,a small hearing aid is attached and a prosthetic ear is attached.From just being able to lip read the children hear and look normal.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT for the NEUROSURGEONS
For the removal of brain, liver and spinal tumors without other tissue damage, this was only one of two in the country.
CARDIOCAP MONITOR.
One for each of the three Operating Theatres.
We are the only Hospital in the uk with this equipment.
SHARPLAN 1020 LASER.
For the ear nose and throat Consultant,to remove serious blockages from the patients throat.
IVAC SYRINGE PUMPS.
The first of its kind in the World, made in the USA. We were the first Hospital in the country to have them,for intensive care.
MONITORS and EQUIPMENT.
to furnish the NEW intensive care Unit.
BLACK MAX
For the removal of Brain Tumors, this equipment can remove the shell of an egg without damaging the mebrane below.
CELL SAVER - Used during operations. Takes up blood, cleans it and returns it to the patient.
STORZ ENDOSCOPIC SURGICAL EQUIPMENT,
Used for Keyhole Surgery in Paediatric,ENT and Neurosurgery,
also equipment used for invasive Hand Surgery.
WILSON PLUS TM
The Radiolucent Wilson Frame, delivers unrestricted radiolucency and
C-arm integration with a convenient and stable method of maintaining patients in a flexed position for Laminectomy,Decompression,Disc Surgery and Micro-Discectomy procedures.
