1. CONSTITUTION:

Malcolm explained that at present the constitution states no committee meeting could take place unless 6 committee members are present, over the last 6 months not enough committee members have been attending the meetings and this has been causing a problem. Malcolm put a motion forward to amend the constitution to 4 committee members attending meetings so that we could carry on with the meetings. Les. Critchley thought this was rather a small a number, but agreed it was the only way forward.
This was proposed by Lesley Wrightson and seconded by Neil Constantine the members present passed the motion.

3. Membership:
Malcolm stressed that we are very keen to increase our membership and urged members present to tell their neighbours about MSRA show them our Newsletter so that they are aware of what MSRA is all about. Malcolm said it is very important to have a committee like this one; it plays a huge part in a small community like ours. We as a committee want to help to improve the area we live in, ensure we have good services and facilities for the young and old and most of all keep the residents informed of issues in the community we live in. We have good links with local Churches, Schools and Small Businesses.
We do not have as many issues in our community at present but when we do we turn to our distinguished guests and associations like ours to help sort them out, until I became a committee member I had no idea of the number of sub committees who are working hard behind the scene to improve our community. When things are wrong – we need to know who to report it to and with this in mind we will publish in our newsletter a list of useful contact numbers.

4. Britain in Bloom

We must all agree that the planting as part of Britain in Bloom around the area of the shops looked exceptional this year and we must give a special mention to Pauline and Lynda and thank them for all their hard work for the planning right through to the planting which took place in June. We also saw some children from Moorside High School who helped with one of the boxes and it is nice to see these links with our young people. The award ceremony for Britain in Bloom is on the 22nd October 2009 in Southport Lynda and Pauline will attend, they deserve an award.

Karen Garrido praised the planting this year saying how colourful the displays were and how well the new-grassed area looked, there was a sense of pride in the area. She said that watering was a real problem in our area and that Worsley had been quoted a price of £4,000.00 from the council!!

Pauline said this was the 4th year for In Bloom and that last year we were awarded a merit, she pointed out that it was very hard work and more people are wanted to help with the watering. One idea would be for people to adopt a box to look after, she asked the members present if it was worth doing In Bloom every one agreed it was. Winter planting was to take place on Tuesday 19th October 2009. Two of the boxes are broken so they have been removed.

5. Christmas Lights.
Many of the members are probably not aware that the committee has been involved with the decision making of the Christmas lights and that one of our committee members attends the meetings, this year we have secured funding and we hope to use some of our own money which was raised through fund raising events to put towards future lights and hopefully light up more of our area This year the committee decided not to have the string of lights around the shops as this was working out expensive to store and put up instead we are having pea lights in another tree on Worsley Road near to the United Reformed Church.

6. Community Action Plan 2010/11
We would like you to consider your biggest priorities for our area. At present the Worsley and Boothstown Community Committee are identifying priorities to be included in the Community Action Plan 2010/11. If you have any suggestions, or could identify any key improvements to our area, we would be happy to put these forward on your behalf. Suggestions would need to be forwarded by 30th October 2009.

7. Crime Figures for our area.
PC Colin Baker said from 1st September there had been a few burglaries in the Worsley Road area; there have been a number of arrests. There has been some vehicle crime around Worsley Old Hall The/Marriott Hotel and the Barton Arms. There have been robberies where car keys have been stolen and then the cars. Plain-clothes patrols are in the area.

8. Questions
Mrs Zaidi of Allenby Road Swinton, concerns about the state of the local roads (potholes).
Cll. Graham Compton explained that there is no money to resurface roads but potholes of 2cm will be filled in. You can phone up yourself or phone Graham and he will report it. Karen said that Granby Road is on the list to be resurfaced in the spring.
Ron Hallen The Co-op has recently been given a face-lift, but he would like to know why the two dog hooks and two cycle racks have been removed. Marie Johnson to check on this.
Ron Hallen. Why are we not seeing Police Officers on the beat in our area? PC Colin Baker said the PSCO Steven Woodcock and Kieran Wilson do patrol the area and he would ask them to pop in to see Ron. They patrol in a car at weekend. The Police have meetings called PACT, which means Police and Community Together. The next one will be some time called PACT, which means Police and Community Together. The next one will be some time in November he will let us know when. Neil attended the last one but said that it had not been advertised enough so there were only 3 people there.
It was suggested it was advertised in the Advertiser.
Mrs Jobson is a wheelchair user and wanted to know why there was no dropped kerb on Moorside Rd near the Sides Medical Centre. Marie to look into this.
Gates on alley between Wentworth Rd/Ashley Crescent. This is open at the moment to check if the anti-social problem has now stopped.
Graffiti on GPO Boxes/Phone Boxes and Signs in our area.
Marie said Open Reach BT is responsible for removing it on their equipment. The signs are the responsibility of Salford Council.

From the Floor.
It is very difficult to get a bus from our area to Hope Hospital particularly in the evenings.
Adrian Dunning and Ian Macdonald said there is a survey being delivered to our area explaining about a new bus service that may run from Boothstown along the East Lancashire Road to the new Hospital on Oxford Rd Manchester this would replace the last idea (The Leigh Guided Bus Way). A lane would be taken off the East Lancashire Road and made into a bus lane, a park and ride would be built under the motorway near to Homebase. Funding would come from the TIF Fund. Ian said that crossing the East Lancashire Rd is a problem they are trying to solve. Adrian said there would be a presentation meeting at URC Church on the 25th November 2009.

Groups of Youths hanging around the Sides Medical Centre and Co-op.
PC Colin Baker and Karen both thought they were not causing a problem but if it did became a problem there is a youth intervention scheme that they could be referred to.

Malcolm Closed the meeting at 9pm approximately 35 residents attended.
