Sam Hamer's Picture Memories
Sam is interested in comparing views of Little Hulton “THEN” with views of Little Hulton “NOW”.

The photographs below are all of a Little Hulton you may not remember, but Sam has kindly given us some modern landmarks to help us.

1. These girls from the Redgrave family are sitting on the bridge over the railway line. In the background is a train going past. The railway line closed in 1954 and what you would now see from this view is houses and the Welcome Pub. The Redgrave family lived at Pea Cottage down the bottom of Peel Lane (see picture below).

2. Peel Carnival in the late 1920’s on Manchester Road West looking from Peel Church. In the background is the old Co-op building (what is now the bookies and furniture shop). The theme of fancy dress is “The Village Wedding” after the painting by Sir Samuel Luke Fildes

3. Pea Cottage at the bottom of Peel Lane. This house was known to many as the Red House and was owned by the Redgrave Family. It used to be possible to buy ice-cream from the cottage on a Sunday afternoon before going for a walk in Madam’s Wood. The ice cream was made from goats milk and was some of the best in Little Hulton (although Taziker’s ice cream at the other end of the village was also very good!!)

Little Hulton Library is due to open 3 July 08 after a complete reburbishment
