LOCAL HISTORY AND FAMILY FUN DAY
This year's event takes place at Salford Museum & Art Gallery on Sunday 19 September, 11.00am-4.00pm.

LOVE ON THE DOLE: THE TALK
Chris Carson will give an illustrated talk on Salford in Love on the Dole at our meeting on 8 September. Scenes of Salford and surrounding area are depicted in the book and we shall see photographs of these scenes both as they were when the novel was written in the 1930s and as they are today.
We will also be looking at the themes of the novel and at the life of its author, Salford-born Walter Greenwood.
LOVE ON THE DOLE:THE PLAY
The play Love on the Dole, by Walter Greenwood and Ronald Gow, is being performed at The Octagon Theatre, Bolton 14 October - 6 November.

WALKDEN GATEWAY LIBRARY EVENTS
Walkden Library will be holding several events with a local interest theme this coming autumn.
The events will take place at Walkden Library, Walkden Gateway, 2, Smith Street, Walkden, M28 3EZ.
Tickets are available from any Salford library, or telephone 0161-909 6518, or email Walkden.library@salford.gov.uk.
Tickets cost £3 (Salford library member) and £4 (non-member). You can pay on the door if there are places available, but are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Friday 24 September 1.30pm “Burgess Ledward, the story of a local mill” with Glen Atkinson. Glen will present a series of slides taken from a superb photographic record of work in the mill in 1924.
Friday 29 October 1.30pm “Beatrix Potter, the Lakeland Legacy”. Margaret Curry will give an illustrated talk about the famous children’s author Beatrix Potter and her move to the Lake District to become a farmer, wife to a local solicitor and promoter of the National Trust.
Monday 15 November 7.00pm “Hanged in Lancashire” with Martin Baggoley tells of the grisly murders and the bringing to justice of an array of criminals in this catalogue of gruesome crimes.
