HOMEPAGE
LEFT:Wardle's shop - Ye Olde Thatche - on Church Street, Eccles c.1910
RIGHT: Eccles Station, Church Street, c.1910.

Eccles is now part of the City of Salford. The town was formerly a Municipal Borough (1892-1974) but its history goes back much further. The place name 'Eccles' is derived from Latin 'ecclesia' ('church or religious gathering') and this suggests that there was settlement here in Romano-British times, over 1,500 years ago.

We aim to collect memories, photographs, anecdotes and any other information that can add to our knowledge and understanding of Eccles and its people. We also intend to provide an outline history of Eccles. Your comments would be very much appreciated so please email us: see our Contacts and Links page.

If you have memories or comments of Eccles which you would like to share with us ~ please email Maggie using the link below ~ BUT PLEASE NOTE, THAT AS I WORK FOR AN ‘ICT’ DEPT AT THE COUNCIL ~ I DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO LOCAL OR FAMILY HISTORY INFORMATION
