Do You live with Dyspraxia?
|
YOU DO NOT NEED A FORMAL DIAGNOSIS TO JOIN THIS GROUP!
Do you have co-ordination difficulties?
Did you take longer than the average child did to ride a bike if you ever learned at all?
Did you dread P.E. at school and was always the last one to be picked on the school team and still avoid competitive sports?
Are dancing and making your dance steps the same as everyone else almost impossible. If you have tried aerobics did you find the warm up difficult to do let alone the hard part?
Did you find it difficult to learn to drive if you ever learned at all?
Do you have difficulties with handwriting, putting on make up fastening zips or using D.I.Y. tools?
Do you find it difficult to find your way in unfamiliar places, to give other people directions and read maps? Is it difficult to distinguish right from left?
Do you find it difficult to hold down jobs involving manual dexterity and practical skills no matter how you try?
Have you ever been told you are careless and lazy and that you are not trying, when you have been working harder than other people have?
Do you have difficulties with proof reading and spelling and organising written work?
Do you find it difficult to concentrate and tend to daydream and are easily distracted?
Do you loose the thread of a conversation and interrupt so you don't forget what you are about to say?
Do you regularly loose keys and go in another room for something only to forget what you have been looking for?
Are you sensitive to certain fabrics and find wooly jumpers unbearable and hate tight fitting clothes?
Do you lack stamina and get tired more easily than other people?
This is not intended to be a diagnosis. Although you do not need to be diagnosed to join D.A.A. it is best to ask your G.P. to refer you to a neurologist who specialises in dyspraxia, so that you get the support and services that you are entitled to. An assessment from an educational psychologist who specalises in dyspraxia can also be useful.
