A couple of Planning Applications for the re-development of the area around and including Buile Hill Mansion, within Buile Hill park have been submiited to Salford City Council by Wilkinson Star.
08/56014/FUL is an application for the "Demolition of the existing courtyard buildings to provide a two-storey extension, plus basement and underground link to Buile Hill Mansion to form a 93 bedroom hotel, function rooms and leisure suite and associated carparking facilities."
08/56016/LBC is a Listed Building Concent for the "Refurbishment of Buile Hill Mansion, along with the demolition of the existing courtyard buildings to provide a two-storey extension, plus basement and underground link to Buile Hill Mansion to form a 93 bedroom hotel, function rooms and leisure suite."
As you are aware, the Claremont Community Association has been consistently against the proposed Hotel development within Buile Hill Park and would like to see the Mansion house restored to its former glory for all the people of Salford to enjoy, not just a selected few. In the past there have been several schemes put forward by consortiums lead by Mr Salford (John Wilkinson) and these have been rejected or withdrawn due to their unsuitability for the listed building that is Buile Hill Mansion or the park as a whole.

Salford City Council lunched their Buile Hill Park Restoration page on their website which attempts to justify the building of the hotel by linking it to the Restoration project and their bid for Lottery funding. We urge you to use the 'How to get involved' section of the website to air your views on the hotel development within our park.

As you can see from the Salford City Council Notice taken from the Salford Advertiser published on 15th Jan 2009, the council have put 1.113 hectares of land within Buile Hill Park up for sale. This land comprises the Mansion itself plus the enclosed garden at the side of the house and the park depot! The purpose of this sale is for a developer (we all know who that is!), to build a hotel on the site.
Comments/Objections must be made before the 12th February 2009.
