Welcome to Lower Kersal and Charlestown History Group
we are members of a new History Group based at St Sebastian’s Community Centre Douglas Green near Gerald Rd Salford M66EF

We are part of The Gemini Group and encourage new members who are over 50 and from the East Salford area. They have been going since 2005 and have a core membership of 20-30 local residents,
The group looks at the health and well being of older people in the area, inviting them to monthly meetings to gain information, advice and guidance from various agencies.
The group enjoy organising events and socialising with each other and building a network of new friends,
The history group became a sub group of gemini in June last year with the slideshow from Anne Monahan from the Local history at Peel Park,
The group asked The NDC to fund an inclsion project and elected Martin Davis to manage the project to make a calendar and DVD to fund raise and give more local people information about the area and the opportunity to join the group.
The group arranged visits to the history museum and other trips visits e.g St Thomas's church with Hazel Blears, Agecroft
and Brindleheath cemeteries etc... and now looking foward to making an action plan for 2008
The group have enjoyed themselves and are very busy and active, they have all been and are looking for funding support for 2009 to pay for venue hire, researching trips out to libraries and places of historical interest with poetry about Salford on each month

If anybody has memories of living or working in the area, we are looking for examples like the Dog Track. the Racecourse. Drinking in the pubs, the Floods Kersal Festival or memorabilia they would like to share, any photos or snippets from the past

If you would like to come along and join us, you would be made very welcome.
